For my thesis production project, I chose to create a short film. I had contemplated other ideas, but the one I kept coming back to was a movie. That was the easy part, I then had to develop a proposal, timeline followed by a shot-list, screenplay, and storyboard. Oh yes, and shooting, scheduling, as well as post-production of the film. I had always dreamed of putting a film together. Before I enrolled in this master’s program, before I received my bachelors or associates degrees, I imagined this. In fact, throughout the years I have a written, or started a few stories I felt would be adaptable projects for a film. Here I was, ready to create my first film, D:sconnect (Disconnect). 

 

D:sconnect, tells the story of Manny, a man looking for a way out. A way out of what is the disconnect viewers will have to witness. Manny is distraught, he is alone, he is evasive, and viewers aren’t sure why. As the film progresses, there are clues revealed, and in the end, the truth is evident the disconnect becomes clear.  

 

The process of creating my film was gratifying. From brainstorming, storyboarding, preparing the shot-list, and making equipment checklists and schedules, I found that following an itinerary was paramount for a smooth production process.  I choose to produce my own music for the film. While I was laying the story down, I simultaneously heard the soundtrack in my head. Editing and putting together the footage and sounds I gathered was a methodical process. I hope you enjoy!
